AGE AND GENDER DIF’FRRRNCIZS IN OPTIC DISC ARR.4, CUF’ AREAANDVERTlCALCW-TO-DI:SCRATIO?THEROlTERDAM STUDY. RAMRAlTAN RSJZ, GA DE WRUYNE’s, M. VAN RJZESv, HOFMAN A.‘, and DE JONG P.T.Q.M.’ Departments of ‘Ophthalmology and aBpidemiology & Biostatistics. Erasmus University Medical School, P.O. Box 1738, 3000 DR Rotterdam, The Netherlands. m To investigate cross-sectionally the association of age and gender with optic disc area, cup area (adjusted for optic disc area) and vertical cup-to-disc ratio. Methods: In the Rotterdam Study, a cohort study in a Caucasian population of 55 years and older, simultaneous stereo photographs (using the Topcon TRC-SSZO) were made of both optic discs of all 6782 ophthalmologically examined participants. Semi-automated measurements of optic disc parameters using the Topcon Imagenet System were performed on one at random selected eye of each of 1165 at random selected participants. Stratification in a younger (aged 55-74 yrs) and older (aged 75 yrs and over) age group was applied in the statistical analysis. &&& The disc area for younger men was 2.38+0.026 mm’ (SD 0.4366). for younger women 2.28~0.02 mm* (SD 0.43), for older men 2.38t0.05 mm* (SD 0.48) and oldler women 2.41 kO.04 mm* (SD 0.52). In women there was a significant association between age and disc area (P<O.o005), but not in men. A gender difference in disc area existed only in the young age group. No significant age and gender differences were found for the cup area and vertical cup-todisc ratio. Conclusion: High age is associated with a large disc area in women, but not in men, which can not be esplained yet. No age and gender differences were observed for the cup area and vertical cup-to-disc ratio.

Automated volumetric evaluation of stereoscopic disc photography
PURPOSE To develop a fully automated algorithm (AP) to perform a volumetric measure of the optic disc using conventional stereoscopic optic nerve head (ONH) photographs, and to compare algorithm-produced parameters with manual photogrammetry (MP), scanning laser ophthalmoscope (SLO) and optical coherence tomography (OCT) measurements. METHODS One hundred twenty-two stereoscopic optic disc pho...
متن کاملEstimation of Cup to Disc Ratio to Improve the Glaucoma Diagnosis for Health Care Systems
Background: ARGALI is an Automatic cup-to-disc Ratio measurement system for Glaucoma AnaLysIs Using level-set image processing. The parameters such as rim volume, cup/disc area ratio, cup area and volume, disc area and volume have been estimated and considered for general classification of Glaucoma. Objective: The developed method aims to exploit the advantages of ARGALI and for automated glauc...
متن کاملAssessment of cup-to-disc ratio with slit-lamp funduscopy, Heidelberg Retina Tomography II, and stereoscopic photos.
PURPOSE To compare optic disc measurements achieved by slit-lamp funduscopy, Heidelberg Retina Tomography II (HRT II), and stereoscopic optic nerve photos (SONP) in glaucomatous, ocular hypertensive, and normal eyes. METHODS A total of 176 eyes (glaucomatous [n=87], ocular hypertensive [n=40], and normal eyes [n=49]) of 90 participants were studied. Each participant underwent a full ophthalmi...

OBJECTIVE To assess the correlation between central corneal thickness (CCT) and visual field parameters, cup-to-disc ratio and retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness in primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) patients in Songklanagarind Hospital. MATERIAL AND METHOD A Retrospective analytical study of the medical records of primary open-angle glaucoma patients, between January 2006 and April 2...
متن کاملA Method of Segmentation For Glaucoma Screening Using Superpixel Classification
ABSTRACT: Glaucoma is a chronic eye disease that leads to vision loss. Detecting glaucoma in time is critical. The symptoms of the glaucoma disease occur when it is in advanced stage. Hence, glaucoma is called the silent thief of sight. Detecting the disease in time is very important. In this project, an optic disc and optic cup segmentation is used to identify the glaucoma disease in time. In ...
